How do you research a cryptocurrency before buying?

    Short answer

Start with what the coin is for, then check market cap, 24-hour trading volume, circulating versus maximum supply, and price gaps between exchanges. Crypto trades 24/7 and swings far more than stocks, so size positions so a large drop is survivable.

    A five-point checklist

    • Purpose: payments, smart contracts, a stablecoin or a meme?
    • Market cap: price × circulating supply — bigger usually means more liquid.
    • Volume: daily volume well below market cap is normal; sudden spikes mean news.
    • Supply: how many coins can still be created and when large unlocks happen.
    • Exchanges: the same coin trading at very different prices is a liquidity warning.

    Ways to get exposure

    • Buying the coin on an exchange.
    • Spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs such as IBIT or ETHA in a brokerage account.
    • Stocks tied to crypto, like Coinbase or miners.
    • Options on those ETFs and stocks for defined risk.

    Common questions

    Is Bitcoin a good investment?

Rebel Intel does not give personal advice. Bitcoin has had large gains and drops of more than 70%; only risk what you can afford to lose.

What is the safest way to own crypto?

For many people a spot ETF in a regular brokerage account is simplest. Holding coins yourself means managing keys and exchange risk.
