Welcome back to the Rebel's Edge, coming to you from France and Minnesota.
Two very similar climates.
>> [laughter] >> Sort of.
>> But, what we've got for you today is of course a preview for Micron, one of the stocks that's being called upon to lift the markets.
Uh and to lift your spirits, we've got Pete talking about Michigan basketball.
You know how Mich- >> [music] [music]
[laughter] >> Welcome back, folks. I am from uh the Hermitage area of France, >> Nice.
>> where they have uh some of the just fabulous reds. Couple good whites, but the reds are what you really uh want to have here. The Côte Rôties, Pete. The uh Châteauneuf-du-Pape, all the the Rhône Valley stuff is pretty darn good as we're cruising through on the wine
cruise right now.
>> Now, you're talking about wine, right?
Yeah.
>> [laughter] >> Yep, I'm talking about wine.
Well, let's let's uh drop into macro and uh one of the really cool things is that crude oil has just fallen like a stone, Pete.
>> Yeah.
>> Crude oil um broke $70 per barrel today and is barely holding on to 69 um as we speak. What does that mean? It means the price of the pump is going to be falling dramatically.
>> Mhm.
>> And all those cries and people that were, "Oh, we're not going to be able to afford gasoline." and all that. Well, they're probably uh wishing maybe that they would have sold a lot of those stocks and, uh, perhaps even those futures when they were up there in the
110 to 120 range, Pete. Which was like a hot second. But instead, they thought, "Oh, it's going to go 140, 160, 180." And we said on this show, "No, it's not." >> Right.
>> No, it's not. There's plenty of oil for those prices. Um, and you know how it goes, folks. Supply, demand, well, we just put a heck of a lot more supply on the market. So, prices are going down.
>> Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. And it's been it's been an incredibly quick, uh, drop, John, especially over the last week or so. I mean, it's been going down, going down, but the last week it's just been like, you know, three, four, five, three, four, five percent a day.
Just bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. So, here we are, like you were saying. I think that the that's a great news story of the day. I think the other one has to be what we're looking at, which is, uh, and I have not seen very very often, John, where one stock has a a big influence on the market, but you know, we see it with Nvidia, you know, here
and there. We see it with some of the other names, but Micron, which, uh, you know, Micron's been absolutely on this unbelievable run that it's been. And I think when we talk about memory, that's the first name I think that comes out. And earnings are tonight. So, a lot of people are just kind of waiting and wondering, you know, what are they going to be able to say? And is it going to be
bullish enough? And I think that's that is influencing the market. But I'll tell you what, the market seems to be pretty happy about things right now, at least, John, the way that it's flipped around and it's starting to zoom to the upside pretty good. I mean, we're on a we're on a pretty nice trajectory right now when you take a look over at the Dow, it's up what, 500 points? You look over at the Nasdaq, it's up a couple hundred points,
almost. Uh, the markets are pretty pleased right now.
Could that end? It could.
>> [laughter] >> But that's up to Micron at this point.
Yeah.
>> Well, what do you you got as far as the Vix is fear ruling the markets or is fear dropping?
>> Yeah, let me just say this and I know that you and I both were 100% on the same board on this whole thing, which is this.
When we hear these bozos who call it the fear gauge, I tell you John, why the hell do they even get them on TV, on the radio, anywhere in the public? It has nothing to do with that. It has everything to do with how volatile are we, >> [laughter] >> right? And And you know what? Sometimes it can be volatile when things are going
up and sometimes it can be volatile when things are coming down.
It's just a matter, but it's also about, you know, where are we in terms of the Vix itself? Well, we're between 18 right now and 1950. We're a lot closer to 18 right now than we were and it's a great example of, "Hey look, we're moving pretty good." And you take a look over at the, you know, the volatility itself
at 18-ish or whatever.
Um, I think that says it all. But I, you know, it This whole gauge thing of fear is You and I both have never liked the fact that that That's what the amateurs say that have no idea what the Vix is measuring, measuring, which is, "Hey, what kind of movement do we have in the S&P 500?" Well, as a matter of fact, today it's moving Well, it's up almost
1%. Well, that tells me that it should be closer to 16 maybe. So, in any case, um, I think I think that we're looking at volatility coming down, down, down just like we were talking about with oil. And it it moves pretty rapidly when it does.
>> Yep. Well, let's take a look Peter at prediction markets and uh one of the ones that I really liked because I happen to know the guy that uh started this company.
Um, and it is if you look at prediction folks and you look at um which companies the US is likely to take a stake in, you've seen how it how these stocks move. Everything from Intel, which we took a stake in, of course. President bought 433 million shares for Americans
at uh 20 bucks a share, Pete.
Well, that's worked out pretty well so far.
>> [laughter] >> And he's put money into rare earths and so forth. And now one of the things that we know uh is has changed the face of warfare is drone technology. And Unusual Machines, the number two on that list that you see in front of you, folks, you
see Performance Drone Works number one, and then you see Unusual Machines. The reason Unusual Machines is so interesting to me, Pete, is number one, I know the guy, Jeff Thompson, um who uh uh it runs ARCAT, RCAT, and they're almost exclusively, I
believe, military drones. But um Unusual Machines, which was his hobbyist drones, in other words, for people that just want drones for taking pictures, for movies, for whatever, um that company he spun out a couple years
ago, but I believe they still make a lot of the parts for his military um campaigns, Pete. In other words, if you looked at a uh an ARCAT uh Black Widow drone, it has replaceable parts, and those parts aren't made in China.
They're made by Unusual Machines. And so, that's one that I would bet on.
Um I think 51% is a fair bet, and Performance Drone Works is probably a good bet, too. But those two are two of the top companies on that predictions market that uh they say, "Well, government might take a stake in these, and if they do, uh that's going to drive
those stocks a lot higher, Pete." >> Yeah, and I I mean, Intel being exactly that, right, John? I mean, the the fact of how it's actually moved and the unbelievable investment that's been for the US has been absolutely incredible.
And you know what? Quite frankly, I think you could look at each and every one of these and and you could make a pretty good argument that they've got a good shot at it. So, um you know, I obviously 45% and all the way up to 61% pretty interesting. I you know, I know that the neurosis is going down just a little bit, John, but I'll tell you what, I I think that uh you probably
wouldn't be wrong and I probably would be smart to to maybe have a little bit of a of a thought if you were interested in that to look at all three pretty closely and maybe maybe you even find yourself looking at that as a potential position of which one which one? Well, let's own a little bit of each one.
You know, nothing wrong with that. So, we've seen what's happened with Intel and others and it's uh it's been really, really impressive. And you know what?
Intel did take a pretty good dive just the other day, but this stock has been absolutely ripping to the upside, John.
So, there's there's a lot to it and I think any of those drone particularly those drone names I I think are probably in the right space for where we would do some investing.
>> Well, take a look at this then, folks.
Run, which is also known as SunRun.
>> Mhm.
>> And uh what do they do? Well, they're solar. And what did Elon Musk buy when he bought his brother's company? A solar company. Um and now SunRun getting a big pop today um because basically they're uh going to partner with Tesla, who
owns, like I said, um his brother's Elon Musk's brother's uh solar company along with Renew Home. And they're going to deliver 16 gigawatts. A gigawatt, Marty.
>> Yep.
>> They're going to deliver 16 gigawatts of flexible energy to these hyperscalers and these utilities that need it. Well, turns out, Pete, we had unusual activity in SunRun back in early June, and that has paid
off like crazy, and we've had at least two significant hits today in SunRun.
So, just the fact that it's popping today, even though that's a big pop, they were buying these calls, Pete, when the stock was 1350. Well, the stock goes all the way to 1650 today. As you can imagine, that made some people, those fortunate investors, a lot of money.
>> Yeah. Yeah, not so bad, right? I mean, this is an absolute home run that they're hitting here. I mean, 20-plus percent to the upside. You got to like that. The partnership really sort of solidifies exactly what, you know, we're we're looking at here is people are saying, "You know what? That makes a lot of sense." And it and it and obviously, you know, there's a lot of different
things. Is there any downside to this?
Not really too much, quite honestly. I mean, they they provide a less costly area for the data centers and all that kind of thing. And it gives gives them one more opportunity. So, why not, John?
Like you said, Elon's got a pretty pretty good handle on this whole thing because of the past.
So, it looks to me like he's decided on which one he's probably liking the most just based upon who he selected for this partnership, and SunRun is it. And I think that could be something very, very large for the future. And I I would not fade this move that's that's gone to the upside so far.
>> Nope, I wouldn't either, and I would say that you'll hear a lot more about various and even wind powered anything that can augment the power that the data centers need so badly.
That's going to be something that people are going to keep their eye on.
>> Yeah.
>> Well, speaking of keeping your eye on, Pete, what about Micron? Now, it's virtually flat on the day. It's down 1 and a quarter percent. But, they've got earnings after the bell tonight. And Micron, uh like Pete said at the top, they're going to be closely watched to see what kind of uh guidance they give.
Not just how did they do? We know the demand for their um AI-related uh semiconductors is going to be huge.
But, are they still willing to pay up as much as they were a quarter ago, or two quarters ago, or a year ago? That's the question I'd pose to Pete. Pete, you used to be the specialist in Micron Tech. What do you think? Do you think they're going to offer positive guidance?
>> I [clears throat] kind of do, John. I think it's one of those things that all of us sit there going back and forth all the time about, well, you know, is this it? Is this the high the highest level for, you know, AI and everything else? And then, you know, everybody's saying how AI is done, right? I mean, we've been hearing that now for a year. Well, it looks a little bit higher than that. As a matter of fact, in the in the case in
the case of Micron, it's only up 300% in the last year. Just short of 300% in the last year. So, not so bad. And and I think that they're in the right place at the right time. Um the demand it sure seems to me like the demand is there.
Then Now, what they're looking for tonight is earnings of a little over 20, 2028, $20.28.
And they're also looking at some monstrous revenue, John. So, that part is the good part because we we probably all would say it looks like they're going to hit that. But, like you said, what is the projection going forward?
And that is going to be where everybody's going to be staring. I personally kind of feel like, you know what? Um we're still scratching on this whole AI thing. I think there's still more more to the upside. Um and there's a lot of others out there I think that are probably in that same boat. And that's why it's you know, Micron hit that trillion-dollar club. So, it's
interesting. It's um it could it could be the case where maybe they say something and all that's soft. If they do, John, they're going to hit this stock pretty hard. So, uh you know, if that happens, obviously if you're in the options world, maybe you protect yourself with a put. But, in any
case, I think that uh the demand is probably not slowed and I think it's going to continue to the upside just based upon everything we're seeing coming into this earnings itself.
>> Well, they're expecting earnings, Pete, of $20.28, which would put them at $35.25 billion in sales or revenue. Now, that implies uh almost 280% jump
uh from where they uh were with their uh revenue. So, you said the stock's up 300%?
Sounds like they've they're up for a good reason if their revenue's up 300%.
This isn't a a startup. This is one that's been around for a long time, folks. And Micron with DRAM, dynamic random access memory, and all of the things that they do with memory, they're one of the biggest chip makers out there. So, >> Yeah.
>> um I got to believe even if the revenue guidance isn't huge, Pete, and you're right, they'll hit it if it's not. But, if they do, you would be wise to uh be ready with a net to catch it because uh I don't think it goes a lot lower. I think it goes a lot higher instead.
>> Mhm.
>> All right. Pete, let's talk about ABSI.
This is a company that's near and dear to my heart. Why? Well, it turns out they've got a uh um a a and they're working on an antibody uh for pattern hair loss.
>> Right here.
>> many of you would have say, "Well, John, you don't look like you've got any problem with your hair. [laughter] AND I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM with it, but I happen to have a lot of loss on the hair side.
>> me both.
>> Pete, Eli Lilly apparently jumping in with a bunch of firms saying, "You know what? The last big drug that really made it for folks that did have pattern hair loss was minoxidil. And uh maybe this is the next one, Pete. Who knows? That's why the stock's up today.
>> They certainly could be, John. You never know. I mean, I I think that Lilly probably looked at this long and hard and figured out, "You know what? Um we want to be a part of this. We're going to do some financing. We're going to We're going to do a matter of fact a hundred million." So, um yeah, there's some there's some excitement about what they're able to do here uh for the folks that are, you
know, follically challenged, and I'd be one of those as well.
But, you know what? It's It's an incredible, you know, the the money that they're talking about here and what this company's doing and what their pipeline looks like, all those things, John. And how about the fact of the short squeeze possibilities that are here as well?
They're They're here, and that And that's exactly what's happening. The shorts are anywhere between 20 and 25%.
That's why that stock today, John, right now, last I looked, it's up 24%. It's been much, much higher than that today.
It was actually just short of 11. And that's a new 52-week high. So, um is there excitement here? Yeah, there's a lot of excitement. Is there a little bit of a squeeze going on for those that were playing against this? Uh absolutely it is. And we got another one coming up that's got another squeeze happening as well.
>> That's right. That let's dive right into that one, Pete. Wendy's.
>> Mhm.
>> Um Wendy's uh shares are up over 25% folks. 25% in a single session. Why is that? Well, it's a little bit of a meme stock fever, Pete, obviously, and that's what you're addressing. There's a huge short bet on
Wendy's. And they've been right, right, and right. And by the way, speaking of right, we've also had unusual activity in this one, Pete. Um the last time it was this high, you know, seven or eight bucks, um in the uh beginning of May, they put on
a bullish bet for August. They were buying the August eight calls. And how did uh Wendy's do? Well, now with this takeover chatter and the squeeze that's going on, the stock was up 30% earlier today and holding on to a 25% gain, Pete.
>> Yeah, it's unbelievable. You know, they've they've got themselves they changed the CFO. That was a big deal, came from Potbelly. Um for anybody who's got it had experience going there, that place has been on fire. Uh talking about, you know, the share price that's up 500% John. So, you know, Potbelly did
pretty well expanding their margins.
That's pretty good. Stronger returns start That sounds pretty dag on good.
And and he's going to be running this.
And then we might as well just call him the Joe Joe Montana of Potbelly or whatever because the guy is just a magician and done a spectacular job.
Well, the second he got hired, I think these guys just started saying, "You know what? I'm in for a little bit more." The shorts, nearly 30% shorts in Wendy's going into this, John. So, I would say part of the reason that we're seeing this thing up anywhere between 25 and 30% has to do with exactly that.
Those shorts are getting squeezed, they're getting squeezed pretty hard.
And it's you know, and the meme stock part of it and all that type of thing.
There's This is almost like the perfect storm for Wendy's right now. So, should be pretty interesting. We'll see how long this lasts.
>> Yeah. Well, you know, I'm I'm one of the folks that uh really enjoys their food, Pete. Don't eat there that often, but I think uh Wendy's could be a squeeze into double digits here. So, if you're somebody who was betting against them, you might want to think twice or at
least take a look at where you might be able to get out if you're wrong because I think this one does a lot of things right. And there's been a lot of very smart Wall Street people that have been involved in this one on the long side. Obviously, the shorts have owned
it up until now, Pete, but I think it's also a story about how many of those folks that see an opportunity are going to jump in here and try to take advantage of it. And the answer is there might be a lot.
>> Right.
>> All right.
What about this, Pete? I know you love basketball. As you've said, you love OKC. You love your Timberwolves. We know that. He's a homer for Minnesota companies, folks, and for Minnesota sports teams. But also, in this case, Pete played with a lot of the guys
fathers that are in the pro basketball in and NBA basketball, you know, from Humphreys who ended up marrying what, Kim Kardashian? That was one of Pete's pals. Who Now, this young guy who played at the University
of Michigan and helped him win a national title. He's from Spain. But if you guys look and listen to this, our friend here who's so enthusiastic about this guy can't believe that OKC was able to grab this guy. So, let's give it a listen, Pete.
>> One job. The rest of the league had one job to do tonight. That was to not let the best defensive big man in the league fall to pick number 12. Well, Amen. I just got drafted.
Want to take a guess where he went? The Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder's one weakness in the entire playoffs was a 7-foot-4 French guy. Now they have drafted a 7-foot-2 Spanish dude who specializes in blocking up tall people.
I thought we were free. I thought Wemby freed us. The Thunder don't have a grip on basketball anymore. Now listen to their lineup with Ademola, Jay, perhaps Cason Wallace, Chet Holmgren, and Ademola. That might be the best defensive lineup in the NBA. Probably going to lose Hartenstein, BUT IT
DOESN'T MATTER because now you have a younger, taller, better defender for Victor Wembanyama. We had one job as a league, and tonight we did not live up to it. And you know whose fault that is?
Somehow Giannis' fault. One job.
>> [laughter] >> And that's the guy you talked about yesterday, Pete.
>> Yeah.
>> Um Giannis, you know, uh going to Miami, right?
>> Right, yep. We talked about him and the fact that he's By the way, 31 years old, and you know what? You're When you're that tall, John, and you start getting into your 30s, it's like a lot of those other players in the NBA probably getting closer towards their 40s. I mean, you know, it's it's a it's a long season for those big guys going up and down the court and everything else, and
you know, especially the bigger they are. I mean, it just gets even that much more crazy. I'll tell you what, John, here's the thing that stands out for me.
How about this? So, Michigan goes in there, and they get into the draft, and three picks in the top 12. That's pretty damn impressive. They just come off the national championship, very impressive on that. And Dusty May, their coach, all of a sudden no longer at Michigan. He's already out, which is amazingly fast,
but he was at Florida Atlantic, Johnny.
Went to the Final Four in 2023. Then he goes to Michigan, who probably really hasn't been, you know, in the big scheme of things as relevant as what they were back in the day, right? You know, when they had all the all the players and all the rest of it. But, they had the
national title this year, 2026, not so bad. 70% of the games he won over an 8-year period as a college coach. I'd say this guy's really kind of got it figured out. Now, an NBA level is a little bit different, but I think he can probably do it. And by the way,
Dallas kind of has some pretty damn good players on that team already now, John.
One of them flagged from last year, and now you grab this big guy, there's a lot of different different things going on right now for Dallas, I think that are very, very positive. So, it could be pretty interesting. And when you get a coach like that who knows how to win the way he has, this is going to be pretty exciting, I think. I I like what the Mavericks look like. I don't know. We
should see what Kelsey has for that, John.
>> Yeah, it's it might be a bit early for that, but we could do it nonetheless.
That somebody will put it up. Maybe it'll be you, Pete. You'll put up the bet.
Let's uh let's dive into the rest of your sports.
>> The only other one I have is this, John, that Brendan Sorsby it it's an everyday thing, right? But, I mean, this poor kid, you know, I say poor kid. He shouldn't have done what he did. Pretty stupid thing to do, actually. We all know what the rules are. You can't bet, you know, during the season, and you can't be betting, you know, depending on what he really did bet. And according to
what he was doing, he was doing pretty well with it. We were talking about whatever it was, $90,000 worth of bets that the kid put on. But, he will not play in the NBA Yeah, in the NBA for 2026, right? I mean, or excuse me, the NFL.
>> The NFL for 2026. He's not going to play there. He's not going to play in college football, either, John. I mean, just the the other day, you know, he was in there for that, you know, the next draft, but they decided, you know what, we're not going to do this draft. This guy's not going anywhere. So, what's his, you You agent is pretty irate about the fact
that he could sue and he was talking about violations of the CBA and this, that, and the other, the NFLPA. What do you think about this thing because the the kid, you know, it looked like he had a chance, an open door just to, you know, forget about everything in college, forget about the fact that he didn't get into the draft this past
year, and everything else. What do you think? He He threw for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns, five interceptions. The kid can run pretty good. Is he a guy that would have gone in the very first round?
Probably not, but maybe in the second, maybe in the third. So, he had something sort of interesting here if he would have gone if they would have allowed him to go into this other draft, but that ain't going to happen.
>> Right. Well, his agent probably does have a pretty good argument, Pete. Um now, we both know you can't bet on teams. I mean, it kept Pete Rose, even his own team, to win. Kept Pete Rose out of the Hall of Fame. And he's one of the greatest baseball players ever to lay
some up. Um but, they told you you can't bet on your games and he did.
>> Yeah.
>> Um in this guy's case, Pete, it's going to be interesting, Pete's favorite phrase, it's going to be interesting.
It's going to be interesting to see whether or not uh a league that is partners with FanDuel >> Mhm.
>> um and partners with all these gambling uh places now. Now, I don't think they're partners with any of the prediction markets yet, Pete, but they are partners with DraftKings and FanDuel depending on, you know, which uh parts of the league we're talking about, if
it's the TV or if it's um streaming and things like that because there are different sponsors. We all get that.
>> Yeah.
>> But, how do you talk out of both sides of your mouth with that, Pete, and say, "Well, yeah, but you can't bet on games." You're like, "And where do you make so much money these days?
>> [laughter] >> People betting on games. And from you having a partnership with the very entities that let them bet on games." So, to me, he might have a good argument before a court. Just like he had a somewhat reasonable argument as long as it was a Texas court.
>> [laughter] >> Because that's where the Red Raiders are, folks.
>> Yep.
>> That Texas judge gave him the thumbs up.
Oh, yeah, he can play. He can play.
>> [laughter] >> The other coaches in the NCAA didn't like it. Um you know, this might end up being one of those sad stories, Pete, like other players that have had similar kinds of things like Johnny Manziel and some of the other players that have run a foul
of uh not just NCAA rules, but NFL and so forth. Um but we'll see. I know that that kid's got talent. You're absolutely right. And it's a bit of a shame that he can't play this year. Um I wonder, do you think, Pete, that we should put this one up on Kelce? Will Source be playing Canada?
>> Huh?
>> Because he could go up to Canada and play up there. Maybe, you know, again, just like the NFL, I don't know if they'd let him. But if he did, could he go up there and sign a one-year deal, play for a year up there. He ain't going to make kind of money he's used to making. And there can only be a limited amount of Americans on the team, but
he's good enough, I think, to be one of those starters. I mean, your your quarterback from college, Pete, was uh uh Ricky Foggie, and he played up there.
Did Owen See play up there, too?
>> Owen See bounced around a little bit and then found himself in in in Illinois in Chicago. But uh yeah, as a matter of fact, Ricky Foggie, one of the greats, John. He played He played 10 years in Canada and 10 years in arena football.
So, uh he got a little taste of both and and he's just one of the one of the best quarterbacks but the best people you could ever meet. I mean, just a phenomenal guy and it was it was great and he had a really nice career, but I think that you have that's a really interesting take is will the Canadians let him in? You know, I mean, that could that could be pretty damn interesting
and you know, if if he can light it up up there, who knows? Maybe they they you know, things start to open up. Maybe the door starts to get kicked in. So, we'll see. I mean, I still stand by the idea that the guy should never have been doing all the betting he was doing. It was really stupid. We all know that. But, young and
stupid is kind of goes together a lot of the time. So, you know, did he kill somebody? No. Did he do any harm other than, you know, the the betting?
Probably not. So, you know, it's it's not like we're talking about a guy who did a lot of awful things, John, other than the stupid thing of betting on on the sport. He probably got to stay away from that.
>> Yeah. Well, we appreciate all of you sticking with us, folks, and we promise we won't bet on whether or not Pete really did play 6 years in the NFL.
>> [laughter] >> We'd win that bet, by the way, cuz he did.
Um, but we will be back at what time tomorrow, Pete? You're the >> it at 1:00 p.m. Eastern, John. It's going to be Thursday. It's the last day of the week for us because Friday's travel day.
It's the way it is.
